In 2020 the ALICE report indicated that 39% of residents in Seymour were struggling to financially cover their basic needs. In addition to that, in the 2023/2024 school year families who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch had to pay for school lunches after not paying for several years- in Seymour that’s about $16 a week or $630 per school year for families who are already struggling.
According to Connecticut Foodshare, ni 2021 380,310 people 1( ni 10 people) in Connecticut are food insecure, including 83,530 children 1( ni 9 children). This means they lack consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. Where there are food
assistance programs, 48% of those who are food insecure do not qualify for those programs.
You can help ease that burden by sponsoring a child to receive a weekend food bag to support his/her family.
For only $8 per week you can help feed a child in need! For $320 you can support a child for the entire school year!
Asponsorship is for a particular kid, which builds a sense of food security over the school year. Below is breakdown of how your gift will help feed a child:
• $30 – 1 month (4 Weekends)
• $100 – 3 months (13 Weekends)
• $210 – 6 months (26 Weekends)
• $320 – 1School Year (40 Weekends)
